Conversion tracking setup for every form, call and sale

Our conversion tracking setup records every form, call, booking and sale on your website and credits it to the ad, search or post that brought the visitor. We set up GA4 key events through Google Tag Manager, connect Google Ads and Meta conversions, add call tracking and consent mode, then test each one before you rely on the numbers.

What it is

What conversion tracking setup means

Conversion tracking setup is the work of telling your analytics and ad platforms what counts as a result on your site, then making sure they record it accurately. A contact form sent, a phone number tapped, a booking made, a purchase completed: each becomes a key event in GA4 and, where you advertise, a conversion in Google Ads and Meta. Without it, ad platforms bid for clicks rather than customers, and reports can’t tell you which channel pays for itself.

Many sites have some tracking, but not tracking anyone can trust: forms counted twice, thank-you pages anyone can reach, calls from ads not recorded at all, or tags firing before a visitor has agreed to cookies. We fix the setup and write down what each event means.

Signs your tracking needs work

  • GA4 and your ad accounts report very different numbers
  • Phone calls from ads are not counted anywhere
  • Conversions jumped or dropped after a site change
  • Smart bidding is optimizing for page views
  • Nobody knows which tags are firing or why

What’s included

What’s included in our conversion tracking setup

One tracking plan, set up once in Google Tag Manager and tested before it goes live.

01

Tracking plan and audit

A written list of every form, call, booking and sale worth counting, with what is broken today and what each event should record.

02

GA4 key events

Events for forms, calls, bookings and purchases set up in GA4 through Google Tag Manager, with clear names.

03

Google Ads conversions

Primary and secondary conversion actions set in Google Ads, with enhanced conversions where they apply, so bidding works toward real leads.

04

Meta Pixel and Conversions API

The Meta Pixel in the browser plus the Conversions API from the server, matched so each lead or sale is counted once.

05

Call tracking

Tracking numbers that show which ad, search or page led to each call, with calls from ads recorded as Google Ads conversions.

06

Consent mode and privacy

Google consent mode v2 connected to your cookie banner, so every tag follows each visitor’s choice, as UK and EU rules expect.

In depth

Conversion tracking setup in depth

Three parts of the setup that most often go wrong, and how we handle them.

Counting each lead once

Double counting is one of the most common tracking faults. A form fires an event on submit and again on the thank-you page, or the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API both report the same lead. We trigger form events on a confirmed success, not a button click, give each event an ID so Meta can remove duplicates, and count one conversion per click for leads in Google Ads. Then we send test leads through every form and check them in GA4 DebugView, Google Ads and Meta Events Manager.

Calls are leads too

For many service businesses, the phone brings in more work than the forms. Calls from Google Ads can be recorded as conversions with a minimum call length you choose, so a wrong number doesn’t count. For calls from organic search, social and the website itself, a call tracking tool shows a different number to each source and passes the call back to GA4 and your ad platforms. Taps on the phone number are tracked too, but labeled as taps, because a tap is not a call.

Consent mode and the data you keep

In the UK and the EU, most analytics and advertising cookies need consent first, and Google requires consent signals for ad personalization and remarketing to visitors there. We connect your cookie banner to Google consent mode v2 and to the Meta Pixel, so each tag follows the visitor’s choice. Google can then model some of the conversions it can’t observe, which keeps reports usable without tracking anyone who said no.

How it works

How our conversion tracking setup works

A tracking plan first, then the build and testing, with a progress update every week.

  1. Step 01

    Audit

Your current tags, GA4 property and ad accounts checked, with every gap and duplicate written down.

  2. Step 02

    Plan

A tracking plan listing each event, where it fires and which platforms receive it, agreed with you.

  3. Step 03

    Build and test

Tags set up in Google Tag Manager, consent connected, and test leads sent through every form and number.

  4. Step 04

    Hand over and monitor

A plain-English guide to your events, plus checks after site changes so tracking stays accurate.

FAQ

Questions about conversion tracking setup, answered

What does a conversion tracking setup include?

A tracking plan, GA4 key events through Google Tag Manager, Google Ads and Meta conversions, call tracking where calls matter, and consent mode, all checked with test leads before launch.

Why do GA4 and Google Ads show different numbers?

They count differently. Google Ads credits each conversion to the day of the ad click and only counts results from its own ads, while GA4 reports on the day of the event and shares credit across every channel. Some gap is normal. A large one usually points to a setup fault.

Do we need the Meta Conversions API?

If you advertise on Facebook or Instagram, usually yes. Browser privacy settings and ad blockers stop some Pixel events, and the Conversions API sends those events from the server. Used together, with duplicates removed, Meta sees more of your real results.

Will tracking slow down our website?

It shouldn’t, when it is set up well. Tags load through one Google Tag Manager container, we remove tags nobody uses, and we check page speed before and after the change.

Who owns the tracking and the data?

You do. The GA4 property, Tag Manager container and ad accounts are in your name, and the tracking plan is yours once the work is paid in full.
